Combatting Foreign Bribery: Impunity to Enforcement

Posted on October 22, 2024

Foreign bribery is the most direct and damaging form of corruption impacting business, government and communities. Twenty years ago the AWB scandal rocked Australia, leading to commission of inquiry, a failed prosecution and spurring on Transparency International Australia‘s calls for stronger laws. After many years of low enforcement of foreign bribery cases involving Australian mining, infrastructure and business and tireless advocacy by TI Australia, the Combatting Foreign Bribery Act started in September.

Join BPN members Transparency International Australia, in a special event in Melbourne on 21 November to help launch TI Australia and Corrs’ Good Practice Guidelines for Corporate Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Programs, and hear from speakers on the importance of preventing, detecting and holding companies accountable for foreign bribery. This includes a new investigation into the AWB scandal.

Speakers include:

📢 Richard Baker, Investigative Journalist and Podcaster

📢 Dr Ana Estefania Carballo, Research and Program Manager – Accountable Mining, Transparency International

📢 Abby Gill, Head of Investigations and Inquiries, Corrs Chambers Westgarth
